Coughing? Don't mistake seasonal allergies for something worse

Coughing? Don't mistake seasonal allergies for something worse

| By Mari Geier

It happens every year in Atlanta like clockwork.  A couple of days of temperatures above 60 degrees, the sun shines and then it rains.  And everyone forgets that spring is right around the corner.  Then quietly the daffodils bloom, the redbuds spring to life and in a blink (and a couple of days in the 70’s) the entire city is covered in a fine yellow dust – pollen.  This yellow death, can be quite troublesome for some people causing irritated eyes, runny nose, headaches, sneezing and coughing.

But this year, there is a small twist.  We are currently experience a new virus, the novel coronavirus (COVID 19).  The symptoms in the early stages include coughing and shortness of breath.  But unlike seasonal allergies, this is a virus and is followed by a fever.  If you are experiencing these symptoms together (coughing, shortness of breath and fever) and have been exposed to someone that might have been exposed to the coronavirus, you should immediately contact your doctor and get tested.  But, if all you have is a cough, start by getting some water and maybe a cough drop. Then take a deep breath and read on.

#coronavirus VS #pollen

According to the CDC, COVID 19 seems to start with a fever, followed by a dry coughAfter about a week, it can lead to shortness of breath, with about 20% of patients requiring hospital treatment. Notably, the COVID-19 infection rarely seems to cause a runny nose, sneezing, or sore throat (these symptoms have been observed in only about 5% of patients). Sore throat, sneezing, and stuffy nose are most often signs of a cold or seasonal allergies.  For coronavirus updates click here: https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

Chances are, if you have a sore throat, sneezing and stuffy nose you might have allergies.  While there are many over the counter options from the drug store to treat seasonal allergies, many people want to support their bodies in a more natural way.  At Nuts ‘n Berries, we have some great herbal remedies that will keep the sniffles at bay and help you keep a clear head so you can enjoy the warm spring days ahead.  Stop in and meet with one of our allergy experts or shop our online selection of allergy products at www.nutsnberries.com.

From everyone at Nuts ‘n Berries, we encourage you to wash your hands frequently and stay safe. We always suggest that the best way to fight viral invaders is to support your immune system before you become impacted by an increased viral load.  We send our light and positive healing thoughts out to all of those people in Georgia and the world that are impacted by this new virus and hope that it will be contained quickly.
